Mark
O. Dietrich, CPA, ABV -- Biographical Sketch

Mark
holds a Masters of Science Degree in Taxation from Bentley College, a
Masters in Business Administration (Accounting) with high honors, and a
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting), summa
cum laude, Beta Gamma Sigma, both from Boston University. He
is a member of the AICPA and its Management Consulting Section, and the
Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). He is
licensed as a CPA in Massachusetts and holds the ABV (Accredited in
Business Valuation) designation from the AICPA. Mark is a past Chair of
the MSCPA's Federal Taxation Committee and of the MSCPA Physician and
Health Care Committee, and past member of the AICPA's ABV Credential Committee. He is currently a member of the AICPA's Health Care Expert Panel for 2007-2008 and on the Editorial Board of CPA Expert.
Mark is a prolific writer and has authored
numerous articles and course materials on tax matters, valuation,
managed care and capitation, including such topics as personal and
enterprise goodwill, noncompete agreements, partnership taxation,
compensation of shareholders of professional service organizations,
fair market and strategic value, regulatory issues and capitated
contract negotiation for publication in national journals such as
Healthcare Financial Management,Business Valuation
Review, CPA Expert, Valuation Strategies
and The Tax Adviser, as well as the definitive article
on medical practice valuation in the November 2005 The Journal
of Accountancy. He has developed several continuing
education courses, including: "How to Win at Medicare Managed
Care," "The
Practicing CPA’s Medical Practice Valuation Course," "How
to Develop a Healthcare Consulting Practice" and "Basic
Business Valuation." Mark co-authored Practitioners Publishing
Company’s recently released
Guide to Health Care Consulting. His latest work,
The 2001/2002 Medical Practice Valuation Guidebook - Including
Comprehensive Financial Analysis and the Influence of Managed Care,
was peer reviewed by the country’s top valuation experts.
Mark is also a contributing author to Dr. Shannon Pratt's
book, Lawyers' Business Valuation
Handbook and to Aspen Publishing’s
Valuing Professional Practices and Licenses, A Guide for the
Matrimonial Practitioner. In addition to his healthcare
industry expertise, Mark is considered an expert in the area of
personal and enterprise goodwill and noncompete agreements.
Mark is a frequent speaker before professional
societies on topics including financial and strategic aspects of
capitated managed care, healthcare industry valuation and regulatory
matters, personal and enterprise goodwill and noncompete agreements.
His medical practice valuation course was selected by the continuing
education division of the Massachusetts Bar for a 'Best Of' award in
1994 and he has been selected for the MSCPA's "Lamp of Learning"
award for top seminar leaders.
Mark is an
experienced negotiator, with numerous contract and merger and
acquisition transactions to his credit, with values from under $1.0
million to in excess of $100 million. These include capitation
contracts with HMO’s, representation of physician groups in
sale and affiliation negotiations with Hospitals, Integrated Delivery
Systems and Physician Practice Management Companies, and a sale of a
Internet Technology company to a Fortune 50. He has performed more than
175 valuations and testified as an expert witness in civil and marital litigation and qui tam matters.
