Healthcare Reform?

October 16th, 2010 | Healthcare Reform

Nancy Pelosi famously said about the so-called Reform legislation “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it…” Seems as though the more people find out, the less they like it. Insurance premiums are going up, up, up and the Administration is already granting 100s of waivers to companies who presently provide some form of insurance but were threatening to drop the coverage due to the cost of the new “Reform.” And, many of those who voted for this fiasco are now running away from their votes.

I have spent more than 100 hours studying the legislation and assessing the impact, and I can assure you the worst is yet to come. As is usually the case, small business will suffer the most due to its lack of political clout. There will be no waivers for the local businesses even as their large competitors like McDonalds get a waiver.

Even more amusing is that many insurers are pulling out of markets for individual insurance and children’s insurance due to the Medical Loss Ratio rules and coverage requirements. The end result of this will be more folks on Medicaid – already the only “accomplishment” the Reform is likely to record.
